Thurs. Sept. 11, 7:30 pm Concert with Joshua Singing Tree at the Diana Wortham Theatre, intended as a musical evening of synergistic healing. The concert, titled "Adawehi," will feature a state-of-the-art multimedia backdrop of large-format images which represent Native Americans and the natural beauty of their lands, compliments of Tracy Schmidt Photography. Adawehi will also host an impressive ensemble of performing guests. Concert to Begin "Kindness Week" Feb. 13th.

(ASHEVILLE): Award-winning local composer and pianist Richard Shulman will present a concert, "Sounds of Kindness," at Jubilee! Community Church on Sunday, February 13, at 3:00 pm. This will be the first of several events to mark Kindness Week, a project of the Kindness Campaign.

Shulman has composed and performed music promoting peace and positive, healing communication for over 20 years. He has toured extensively in the US and in Europe, and recently performed a Concert of Peace at the United Nations in New York City, his second appearance at the UN.

For this concert, Shulman will be joined by instrumentalists including Marina Raye playing Native American flute, Daniel Barber on percussion, Sherman Hoover on bass; and by vocal soloists and members of the Jubilee Singers. Among the selections will be a lively choral arrangement of the Prayer of St. Francis, Shulman's jazz played with a trio, some meditative music, as well as an original piece composed especially for this event.
At the start of the concert, the winners of the Kindness Poster Contest (grades 1-12) will be announced.

A portion of the proceeds will go to support the Kindness Campaign in Asheville. The purpose of the Campaign, started by Barry Weinhold, is to promote kindness in the Asheville community through recognizing and honoring small and large acts of kindness, as well as bullying-prevention programs for the schools, a dialogue process, and events which bring diverse people together.

Other events of Kindness Week are an Interfaith Celebration of Kindness at St. Eugene's Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 15 at 6 PM; a presentation of the movie "Pay It Forward" at Lord Auditorium in Pack Library downtown on Wednesday, February 16 at 5:30 PM; and a performance of Playback Theater on stories of kindness, at the Reuter Center of UNCA on Saturday, February 19, 7:30 PM.

Tickets for Shulman's concert at Jubilee! are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. They are on sale at Malaprop's, Mystic Journeys, Crystal Visions, and Jubilee! as well as at the door.

Black Mountain is located on I-40, 15 miles east of Asheville.  Take exit 64 and turn south on Route 9 for 8.2 miles.  Turn right at the Light Center sign and follow the gravel road to the dome.

Richard and Sunita each bring years of dedication to expressing inner peace
through music and first played together last year at the Positive Music
Group's "Music of Peace" concert at the United Nations.

The April 1st "Music of Peace" concert will feature solos and duets, and
will include a musical meditation for inner peace and world peace.

Richard Shulman is a composer, keyboardist, and recording artist who
dedicates his music to the expression of love and the awakening of inner
joy. A former student of Chuck Mangione and Marian McPartland at the
Eastman School of Music, and Frank Foster at the University of Buffalo,
Shulman uses his skills as a jazz, classical, and healing-music keyboardist
to create music to assist groups and individuals in embodying their own
spiritual essence. Richard tours doing solo and group concerts and has
produced eighteen albums on his label, RichHeart Music. His recent
orchestral recording "Camelot Reawakened" is a new "program music"
composition based on the fulfillment of dreams of the heart.

Sunita Staneslow has played in concert halls and pubs from New Zealand to
Tel Aviv. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Sunita is classically
trained although her passion is traditional music. She specializes in both
Jewish and Celtic music and leads workshops for harpists throughout North
America.
Sunita was named one of the top ten Jewish instrumentalists by Moment
Magazine and she was a recipient of a 1998 McKnight Foundation Fellowship in
recognition of her work with Jewish music. She has released 12 CDs on
several labels of Jewish, Celtic and classical music and published twelve
books of her arrangements of music for the harp. Sunita was a founding
member of the innovative VIDA ensemble, which performed at the Edinburgh
Fringe Festival. Sunita has performed with the Minnesota Opera, the Chicago
Chamber Orchestra and performs and teaches and festivals and conferences in
North America several times each year. She was the principal harpist for the
Jerusalem Symphony during the 1986-87 season and currently performs with the
Ra'anana Symphonette in Israel. In April of 2003, Sunita performed and
taught at the Edinburgh International Harp Festival. This past August,
Sunita taught at the Island Mountain Arts summer harp camp in Wells, Canada.
Originally from Minnesota, Sunita moved to Israel in the summer of 2000 and
lives with her husband and two children in the town of Kfar Saba.
